He Shou Wu – The “Feel Good” Herb

He Shou Wu (aka Polyganum) – Besides being the premier longevity herb of Chinese tonic herbalism, it  also calms you but increases your energy, cleans the blood, fortifies the muscles, tendons, and bones; prevents premature aging, maintains the youthful condition and color of the hair, strengthens sperm and ova, fortifies the back and knees, and is a major sexual tonic when used regularly.

He Shou Wu also has the amazing ability to put you on a blissful “natural high.” Researchers have found that of all the herbs studied, He Shou Wu is the greatest inhibitor of MAO-B (Monoamine Oxidase-B). Produced by our bodies in increasing amounts as we age, MAO’s can break down the brain chemical Dopamine, which is a “feel good” chemical we produce. By inhibiting this breakdown, we get more Dopamine to our brains which naturally makes us feel great. This can also improve other brain functions like concentration, focus, memory, learning power, and more.

By combining this herb with foods that are naturally full of good brain chemicals like raw chocolate (cacao) and Blue Green Algae (E3 Live – Brain-On is best) which contain  PEA’s (phenylethylamine) you can really turn on the “pleasure” centers of the brain. The South American herb Macuna Puriens has very high levels of L-dopa which is converted to dopamine by the brain. A bruised banana has lots of dopamine quinine, a natural form of dopamine. Almonds and sesame seeds contain it as well.

He Shou Wu works best with those with low dopamine levels and is not for everyone. Dopamine levels start to fall dramatically in many people after 45 or 50. As always, proceed slowly at first and consult your health practitioner.

The Amazing Gogi Berry

The Amazing Gogi Berry

By Mark James Gordon

Who would think that out of over 8,000 herbs in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), a great tasting little red berry would be number one. This of course is the Gogi Berry, also known as Lycium Fruit. In China they’re called Gao Qi Zi.

Gogi’s are a complete source of protein, which is rare for a fruit. They are the only food that increases HGH (Human Growth Hormone) naturally, and the richest source of cartenoids including beta-carotene of any plant. Gogi’s are a true superfood that millions eat everyday. They can be grown in any climate, and are easy to eat. I think they taste better than raisins.

Besides being physically strengthening overall, they boost the immune and cardiovascular systems, protect the liver, are anti-inflammatory, moisten the lungs, and help regulate sugar and cholesterol. Gogi’s are a powerful antioxidant, on the level of Acai and Pomegranate. They have been used for thousands of years as an anti-aging, beauty food and are known to improve memory and enhance your mood.

The eyes really benefit because Gogi’s are antioxidant rich, containing beta-carotene, zeaxanthin, beatine, polysaccharides, trace minerals, and vitamins (especially B and C.) You will notice how they moisten and brighten your eyes. I’ve noticed how colors are brighter and my night vision has improved noticeably.

In TCM, Jing is known as your life-essence and Gogi’s are an excellent Jing tonic herb. They nourish the Kidney complex which strengthens the legs and lower back, increases energy, and promotes the production of sexual essence and enhances sexual energy. Gogi’s are an adaptogen which means they intelligently regulate their effects to help your body reach it’s highest potential.

Fresh berries are 10 times more powerful than the dried ones so always buy the plumpest ones you can find.

Reishi Mushroom and Spiritual Enlightenment

Reishi Mushroom and Spiritual Enlightenment

Created By Mark James Gordon

Reishi Mushroom (aka Ganoderma, Ling Zhi, or Mannentake) For thousands of years, spiritual seekers have regarded Reishi as the
top herb for spiritual growth because of it’s renowned ability to help
us increase our spiritual wisdom known as “Shen” in China.

Known as the “spirit herb”, Reishi was particularly revered by
the followers of the Taoist tradition who use it to enhance meditation
and other spiritual practices.

They continually claim it sharpens yet calms the mind, enhances intelligence and wisdom, builds willpower, and revere it’s ability to expand ones level of consciousness so we can access the higher realms and connect with spirit in our search for “enlightenment.”

While you cannot “Reishi” your way to God, it does improve the intensity and quality of our Shen spiritual energy to support the expansion of consciousness and the unfolding of the Kundalini.

Spiritually speaking, it helps open your “crown chakra.”

Reishi Mushroom and HIV

Reishi Mushroom (aka Ganoderma, Ling Zhi, or Mannentake)

REISHI AND HIV
Called “the mushroom of immortalty” Reishi is one of the top medicinal plants in the Chinese herbal system.

Non-Toxic –
Reishi is non-toxic when used appropriately and can be taken daily on a long-term basis with few known side effects.

Interference with the effectiveness of some drugs (especially immunosuppressants) is possible.
It’s always a good idea to consult a qualified health physician (preferably someone with experience in complementary health care) before consuming any dietary supplement.

The “Great Protector”
Reishi is also known as the “Great Protector” because of it’s well documented ability to strengthen the immune system .

Active Components – Beta-glucan polysaccharides and triterpenes:
The active components of Reishi include both beta-glucan polysaccharides and triterpenes in the form of Ganodermic Acid.

The fruiting body (above-ground part) and mycelium (filaments connecting a group of mushrooms) are used as medicine. It’s now being shown that that mushroom spores contain up to 70 times more of these active constituents.

Increases T-Cells
As Dr. Andrew Weil writes, Reishi “has been the subject of a surprising amount of scientific research in Asia and the West.” Research shows that the polysaccharide beta-d-glucan in Reishi boosts the immune system by raising the amount of immune-boosting T-cells. HIV, the virus responsible for causing AIDS, attacks the immune system, specifically targeting these T-cells, reducing the body’s ability to fight infection. By stimulating them, Reishi strenghtens the immune system’s ability to combat AIDS and other diseases.

Anti-Viral
It’s also known for it’s anti-viral properties and studies indicate that Reishi inhibits the HIV-1 PR enzyme.

Now Being Used In the West
Western medicine is starting to embrace Reishi where it’s currently being used as an immune stimulant by patients with HIV according to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. WEbMD and other well-known medical websites also list Reishi as a treatment for HIV/AIDS.

An Approved Cancer Drug in Japan
Reishi contains over 400 bioactive components and is an approved cancer drug in Japan.

Interlukins, Glucans, and Canthaxanthin
They evidently recognize it’s abiltiy to stimulate interlukins which combat tumors, as well as it’s immune enhancing properties. Studies also show that the “glucans” in Reishi help immune cells bind to tumor cells. Another substance in Reishi called “canthaxanthin” slows down the growth of tumors according to “The Prescription for Dietary Wellness” by Phyllis A. Balch and other experts.

Red vs Black Reishi
Please note that Black Reishi is also used as a medicinal herb but is not as potent as the red variety due to it’s lower polysaccharide levels.

The “Medicine of Kings”
With all these benefits, Reishi is truly “the medicine of Kings.”

US National Library of Medicine
Numerous medical journals published in the US National Library of Medicine have shown Reishi mushroom to be effective.

Cancer Research UK (CRC), the City of Hope National Medical Center in California and the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center
Health institutions such as the Cancer Research UK (CRC), the City of Hope National Medical Center in California and the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center are now pursuing researches and studies on Reishi mushrooms.

Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical Universit
A study in Japan at the Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University indicated that “Ganodermic” compounds in Reishi were “found to be active as anti-HIV-1 agents.”

How to Take Your Herbs

How to Take Your Herbs
Tinctures
Normal dosing on tinctures for adults is generally one dropperful, three times daily, about 15-30 minutes prior to eating a meal.
Double check your own weight and compare it to the dosing recommendations listed on the bottle, especially for children and pets.

Capsules
Capsules can be taken along with the tinctures. Dosing recommendations for capsules for adults are two capsules, three times daily. Just as with the tinctures, check your weight and compare it to the recommendations listed on the bottle. Capsules can be opened and mixed into smoothies or homemade applesauce to make it easier for children to take.
Note: The Stomach & Bowels formulas is an exception, and dosing should be adjusted depending on your movement frequency. Do your best to regulate your bowel movements with your diet.

Special Notes and Considerations
Chances are you will not be able to pull up one full dropperful of the tincture. If this happens, just take two dropperfuls at the halfway mark. It is not an exact science, so do the best that you can with “eyeing” the amount. Each bottle will last approximately two weeks. If you find that you are running out before the two weeks are up, adjust your dose or prepare to move on to the next kit.

All of our herbal formulas work synergistically. You can mix the liquid formulas together in a little fresh fruit juice or water. We find it easy and convenient to put all the tinctures together in a shot glass. Let’s face it, we all know they are not the best tasting, so taking all of them together in a shot glass seems to be quick and “painless” for those who want to just get it over with. As the weeks move on, you will grow to love the taste (believe it or not!).
It is best to take our formulas on an empty stomach or with fruits; we recommend 15-30 minutes before each meal. If you must take them on a full stomach, that is perfectly okay too. Do not sweat the small stuff! Relax and enjoy! Diarrhea and constipation are not wanted! You will want to work on achieving two to three easy, nicely formed bowel movements per day. Adjust your bowel formula accordingly. Our bowel formulas are not laxatives! They clean, rebuild, remove inflammation and strengthen the GI tract.

We recommend burning off the alcohol by placing 1-3 ounces of simmering (not boiling) distilled water in an empty cup, then put one dropperful of each tincture into the water. Let this cool approximately 10 minutes or so, then consume. You may also put your liquid herbs directly into juice or water, or they may be consumed directly if desired!

Have fun and enjoy your journey into the next
Several weeks of GETTING HEALTHY!
